Whalen Company

The Whalen Company operates under the following return policy:

  • A 60-day return window is applicable to all parts, starting from the date of shipment.
  • Returned merchandise must be in resalable condition, free from damages, scratches, or defects, and must not have been installed.
  • Original manufacturer packaging, including manuals and accessories must accompany the returned item.
  • A 35% restocking fee will be charged on each part returned.
  • Customers are required to send packages via traceable sources such as UPS or FedEx.
  • Freight-bound equipment should be returned through freight carriers; customers unsure of the appropriate method should contact The Whalen Company.
  • All items must be returned with their assigned Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number; returns without an RMA number will be refused.
  • The purchaser is responsible for the cost of return shipping, and The Whalen Company is not liable for lost or damaged shipments.
  • Customers are advised to retain their tracking number after shipping products.

August 19, 2019 – Easton, MD - The Whalen Company is delighted to announce the promotion of Dennis Kloster to the role of Chief Operating Officer. 

In his new role, Kloster’s responsibilities will include Operations, Sales and Marketing and Engineering.  As the COO, he will focus on the day to day operations of the Company while working to ensure that Whalen’s long-term strategic goals are on track and are implemented.

Kloster previously held the role of VP of Operations with Whalen for the past 3 years. Prior to serving as President of DK Consulting, Kloster was the president of International Environmental Corporation for eight years. Kloster obtained a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Polytechnic and obtained an MBA from the University of Rochester. He has held positions at Carrier, York, Familian Northwest, Nordyne and StrionAir.

Job Title: Controls Specialist

The Whalen Company has an opening for a Controls Specialist at its Easton, Maryland location. Established in 1962, The Whalen Company is one of America’s most innovative leaders in the commercial heating and air conditioning industry providing fan coils and water source heat pumps for applications worldwide including: hotels, motels, condominiums, apartments, senior living facilities, office buildings, schools, and dormitories. The Whalen Company provides solutions for new and replacement heating and air conditioning applications. Our flexibility and expertise allow us to meet the needs of our customers by providing designs that fit the building ... rather than forcing the building to fit the equipment.

The Controls Specialist will report to the Director of Product Engineering and will be responsible for developing controls on heating and air conditioning equipment, including water source heat pumps and fan coils, and for providing specification documents for production. In this role, the Controls Specialist will:

  1. Collaborate with Engineering to specify, test, and qualify electrical components and printed circuit boards for existing products and new designs.
  2. Collaborate with Engineering to provide controls solutions that meet customer requirements for building automation and energy management.
  3. Develop control box schematics and component layouts for new product development projects and for special custom orders on existing products.
  4. Provide wire specifications lists and connection diagrams to the factory for each production run.
  5. Create and maintain bills of materials, part specification documents, and assembly instructions for control box assemblies used in production.

The successful candidate must have:

  1. An Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology with a concentration in electrical circuits design or equivalent work experience.
  2. Knowledge, skills, and experience or the ability to learn heating and air conditioning controls methodologies.
  3. Knowledge, skills, and experience or the ability to learn building power supply systems, both single and three phase, and building controls and automation systems.

The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:

  1. Knowledge and experience in heating and air conditioning or appliance products.
  2. Knowledge and experience in printed circuit board design and qualification.
  3. Skill and experience in CAD software.

Job Title: Product Development Engineer

The Product Development Engineer will report to the Director of Product Development Engineering and will be responsible for all aspects of product design and development of HVAC equipment. Projects will include: new product designs, model extensions, redesigns of existing product, warranty reductions, product cost improvements, and alternate supplier qualifications. In this role, the Product Development Engineer will:

  1. Manage projects from concept to production launch.
  2. Design and develop refrigeration, air flow, and controls systems.
  3. Provide direction to the Engineering Lab for building prototypes and conducting product performance testing.
  4. Provide direction to Product Designers for sheet metal and tubing CAD models.
  5. Provide direction for Engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, and product releases to production.
  6. Provide Engineering support to sales, production, and technical services.

The successful candidate must have:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  2. A knowledge and understanding of HVAC system operation principles including, but not limited to: the refrigeration cycle, electrical controls, air flow, expansion control devices, heat exchangers, and psychrometric calculations.
  3. Experience in the product development process and delivering designs to production.
  4. Ability to interact with all departments in the company and drive projects to completion.

The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:

  1. Experience in water source heat pump and package terminal heat pump products.
  2. Experience in agency submittals and file management.
  3. Experience in using R&R Supply or similar system simulation software.
  4. Experience in product performance testing in a psychrometric test chamber.

Job Title: Manufacturing Designer

 

The Whalen Company has an opening for a Manufacturing Designer at its Easton, Maryland location. We are an innovative leader in the commercial heating and air conditioning industry. Whalen manufactures vertical stack fan coils and water source heat pumps for applications worldwide.

The Manufacturing Designer will create and maintain product design documents including Engineering CAD models, drawings, and product specifications. You will be responsible for designing sheet metal parts and assemblies, copper tube routings, and cabinet insulation. You will also program the CNC equipment that manufactures these parts. You will review individual work orders and deliver manufacturing documentation packages to production. In addition, the Manufacturing Designer will provide Engineering illustrations for sales brochures and technical publications. The successful candidate must have an Associate’s Degree in either mechanical or electrical design with a concentration in drafting and computer aided design or equivalent work experience. You will need knowledge, skills, and experience in 3-D CAD software and an understanding of design and drafting standard practices. This position will remain open until filled.
